Learning to code with AI Tools
I'm full of creative ideas, but my coding skills hold me back. So, I downloaded Cursor, set up a new Linear team and project, and began experimenting...
The Goal
To learn smarter, capture ideas while reading or listening, and maintain a constant flow of insights. This is the vision for my Study Tool.
What I Accomplished in 2 Hours without experience...

1. Set the Vision
What do I want to learn?

From Backlog to Done in Record Times
After setting up the project and milestones, I started by creating the first ticket ‘Shape Project’

I created milestones that act as buckets of work to realise this project...

And then I used Cursor chat for everything:
Here's the list of completed tasks:
- Welcome Message: Built a “Hello World!” page for onboarding and setup.
- Setup Cursor: Installed and configured Cursor editor.
- Setup Environment: Completed initial environment setup.
- Run Local Server: Set up and ran the local development server.
- Create a page that says hello: Created a simple page displaying a hello message.
- Connect Supabase with Cursor and Show a data entry on localhost: Connected Supabase to Cursor and displayed a data entry locally.
- Connect Linear MCP to Cursor: Integrated Linear MCP with Cursor for project awareness.
- Connect GitHub to Linear and Cursor: Connected GitHub repository to Linear and Cursor.
- Test Linear, GitHub, Cursor Flow: Tested integration between Linear, GitHub, and Cursor.
- Update ReadMe File: Updated the project’s README for clarity and completeness.
- Create Tickets in Linear with Cursor: Enabled ticket creation in Linear directly from Cursor.
- Add Hotkey Support: Implemented keyboard shortcuts for adding entries and navigating the app. Added help dialog for hotkeys.
- Add a Learning Entry: Users can add and persist learning entries (notes, highlights, ideas). Entries appear immediately and persist after reload.
- Improve UI with best practices

The Big Realization
I accomplished a lot very quickly, and the surprising part is that I didn't fully understand the technical details. Cursor, the AI coding assistant, handled the intricacies, so I could focus on building. This proves you don't need to be an expert to ship real features fast. Just have the right tools and a clear goal.
How You Can Do It Too
Download cursor and start asking questions. Sometimes I use Perplexity.ai to answer some questions but in general. The chat in Cursor does it all! Try it, Push it, Learn with it!
That's it for Day 1.
If you're thinking, "I could never build something like that," trust me—you can. With tools like Cursor, you can achieve a lot, even without knowing every detail. That’s the most exciting part of this journey. Stay tuned for Day 2!
